Gran Dante Cabernet Franc: the first Dante Robino varietal with an AI-designed label
Bodega Dante Robino is unveiling its first Cabernet Franc, launched with an innovative label created using artificial intelligence. This wine is not only a new step for the Gran Dante line, but also a bet on creativity and technology in the world of wine.
Made with grapes from Gualtallary (Uco Valley), this Cabernet Franc is a faithful varietal expression that seeks to preserve freshness and highlight fruit. “For several years now, Cabernet Franc has been setting trends in Argentine wines. With this Gran Dante, we wanted to leave our mark—our approach to crafting modern, high-end wines with clear varietal character. Since 2022 we’ve been developing this variety through trials, identifying sites and wine profiles, and in 2023 we achieved a wine with varietal character—elegant, linear, and balanced by its time in oak,” said Gonzalo Funes, winemaker at Bodega Dante Robino.
The labels in the Gran Dante family pay tribute to astronomers immortalized in art. For the launch of the new varietal, the winery wanted a woman to represent it. Thus, it was decided that the new label would feature a female astronomer whose essence reflects the innovation and complexity that define both this varietal and the legacy of these pioneers.
“During our search, we discovered there were no contemporary images that portrayed these women fully engaged in their work, which made it challenging to spotlight their valuable contributions to our understanding of the universe,” said Inés Mastrogiacomo, Marketing Director at Bodega Dante Robino. “In this context, we chose Amélie Lefrançais de Lalande, an 18th-century astronomer who was instrumental in calculating naval time tables, and through her we pay tribute to the great figures of astronomy,” she added.
The agency TombrasNiña created the label, using Generative AI to depict Amélie in her historical setting. “AI was a key tool, but we also carried out in-depth research to faithfully represent the period, its attire, and the architectural details of her surroundings,” noted Martín Bernasconi and Artur Monteiro Ziguratt from the agency.
This release arrives just ahead of Cabernet Franc Day, celebrated on December 4. Funes emphasized: “With this wine, we feel the grape shows its finest expression—balanced notes of fresh spices, smoky red peppers, good length on the palate, fine tannins, and the acidity that provides its backbone. It’s a balanced, elegant wine that would surely inspire Amélie—the figure we honor on the label—to keep charting bold new courses.”
Gran Dante Cabernet Franc 2023 will be available at wine shops and specialty stores, with a suggested retail price of ARS 52,300.
About Gran Dante Cabernet Franc
Vintage & origin: Gran Dante Cabernet Franc 2023 is made from grapes grown in Gualtallary, Uco Valley, harvested at an elevation of 1,150 meters above sea level (masl).
Terroir: Sandy alluvial soils with silt and limestone resting on gravels formed in the Tertiary period. Low organic matter and excellent drainage allow the vines to access and explore deeper layers. The first stratum consists of a 10 cm layer of vegetative cover formed by wind erosion. From there down to 2.20 m, there is medium alluvial stone, calcium-carbonate patinas, and calcareous incrustations. The deepest horizon sits on large alluvial stones intermingled with sand. High trellis system with drip irrigation.
Winemaking: Hand harvest. A 3-day pre-fermentative maceration at 5 °C is followed by fermentation in concrete vats and small-volume stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures between 24–27 °C, aiming for varietal freshness with amplified fruit and aromatic character. Part of the blend is aged for 12 months in first- and second-use barrels to add complexity.
Tasting notes: Bright, attractive red with vivid violet hues. An intense aromatic palette evokes smoky red peppers, white pepper, fresh spices, and subtle oak. The palate is friendly and linear, with well-balanced body and structure, good length, fine tannins, and crisp acidity. Varietal purity and elegance.
Suggested pairings: Ideal with tomato-sauce pastas, pizzas, grilled meats and burgers, roasted vegetables, spiced dishes with aromatic herbs, and cheeses.
